TemPALS

It’s no surprise that Temple attracts more than 2,000 international student applicants each year from all over the world. But being new to not just the university and Philadelphia, but also a whole country where you don’t know anyone can be a difficult adjustment. That’s why we created the TemPALS program, which pairs students new to the U.S. with alumni who serve as personal ambassadors to Temple and the American experience for one academic semester or year.

As a TemPAL, you can make a real difference in the lives of Temple’s international students by supporting their transition in a variety of ways. Whether it’s advising which local grocery stores to go to and how to navigate the various schools and colleges or explaining why Philadelphia sports fans are a whole other breed, your knowledge makes you the perfect ambassador to ensure an enriching experience for these students.

In addition to attending on-campus events hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations with your student throughout the year, you’ll also be encouraged to gather and network with other pairs of TemPALS and students on your own. And the benefits of being a TemPAL go beyond showing your Temple pride: previous alumni participants have found the program to enrich their own lives as well due to learning about different cultures and perspectives as well as strengthening the Temple community as a whole.
